Atomation Wins “IoT Sensor Innovation of the Year” in 8th Annual IoT Breakthrough Awards Program

Prestigious Annual IoT Breakthrough Awards Program Recognizes Standout Internet-of-Things Companies and Products

ST LOUIS - Jan. 11, 2024 – IoT solutions company Atomation today announced that its newest Atom sensor has been selected as the winner of the “IoT Sensor Innovation of the Year” award in the 8th annual IoT Breakthrough Awards program conducted by IoT Breakthrough, a leading market intelligence organization that recognizes the top companies, technologies, and products in the global Internet-of-Things (IoT) market today.

Atomation's new breakthrough sensor is designed for precise bearing temperature monitoring. With its unique "needle" design, the Atom is easy to install directly into the grease port of the equipment being monitored. This allows the direct temperature measurement of the bearing's lubricant while continuing to monitor the ambient temperature at the housing as well as bearing vibration.  Once Atoms are installed and connected to a Gateway, they start recording this critical information and provide near real-time alerts if conditions stray from norms.  Requiring no customer network, this solution gives Operations teams working in rugged, outdoor environments the ability to monitor equipment and machinery that was previously unmonitored.

All Atoms are small, wireless, and battery-operated with computing and memory capabilities. Powerful edge computing capabilities allow Atoms to recognize normal operational behavior for any device. They continuously monitor and process information locally, instead of sending a constant stream of data back to a central system. When thresholds are exceeded or equipment is acting outside of normal, Atoms send alerts to the cloud, notifying users of problems before equipment fails or when events have occurred that require attention.

“We are proud to be recognized by IoT Breakthrough this year and it signifies success in our commitment to serving our customers operating in industrial manufacturing, utilities, and mining - as they are often overlooked due to challenges in providing technology that works well in rugged environments,” said Steve Hassell, CEO at Atomation. “We have worked hard to further develop and expand the Atomation platform. By delivering a solution that takes temperature into account, our clients benefit greatly from condition monitoring and productivity management solutions.”

The mission of the IoT Breakthrough Awards program is to conduct the industry’s most comprehensive analysis of the global Internet-of-Things industry and then recognize the ‘breakthrough’ innovators, leaders, and visionaries in a broad range of IoT categories, including Industrial and Enterprise IoT, Smart City technology, IoT Security, Connected Home and Home Automation, Connected Car, and many more. This year’s program attracted thousands of nominations from companies all over the world.

“The advantage of Atoms from Atomation is that they can be used in places other sensors can't. Bearing temperature monitoring serves multiple purposes but mostly by preventing downtime, machine outages, safety concerns, and labor costs, productivity is uninterrupted and even increased,“ said Steve Johansson, managing director at IoT Breakthrough. “Congratulations to Atomation, our ‘IoT Sensor Innovation of the Year’ recipient. The Atomation Platform gives industrial customers the tools they need to evaluate machine performance and answer critical questions about their equipment and the environment.”

Atoms communicate either via blue-tooth low energy to a gateway or directly to the cloud, providing immediate visibility into operational information and equipment health. Users can access data via the mobile app, through the Atomation dashboard, or by pulling information directly into their systems using the restful API.
